Q: I don't know if you can help, but I am trying to find someone to restore an old windmill as a present for my wife's 60th birthday. We have the tower and head. What we need is a new mill (blades) and some tune-up.

-Dick Bigler

A: Not the most romantic present I have ever heard about, but certainly unique!

Keep handy the contact information of the American Wind Power Center, (806) 747-8734 or windmill.com, a museum for water-pumping windmills and related machinery. This group maintains a list of windmill repair services in the state. In addititon, the center houses a collection of historic windmills.

Local craftsman Brad Anthenat works on windmills - repairs and restoration. He can procure new blades if the manufacturer is still in business or have custom ones made.

Jane,

You may remember that several months ago I wrote you asking if you could put me in touch with someone capable of restoring a windmill my wife wanted as her 60th birthday gift.

You were kind enough to supply the name of Brad Anthenat.  I just want to send you a picture of the finished windmill which we erected Saturday.  Brad and his wife Marilynn did a terrific job in coming up with missing parts and restoring the windmill to better than new.  My wife is thrilled.  Can't get her off the porch....she just wants to sit and watch the windmill.

My wife and I highly recommend Brad and Marilyn for any windmill jobs.  They are fun and clever to work with.

Thanks for your help.
Dick Bigler

Many thanks to the Biglers and Jane Greig! It was a pleasure to restore this Fairbury 7AA windmill.
